BUY .
“Stocks are going to go much higher [...] The catalyst is the reduction in loan losses. That’s all that investors in banks care about. The fundamentals are not good. The first quarter will not show any particular strength in bank earnings. What it will show is an improvement in loan quality and that’s all people are looking at."
"Since December 31, 2009 those banks within our large cap bank universe that were trading below book value have substantially outperformed those banks that were trading at a premium.
In fact, the six bank stocks within our large coverage that were trading below book value at the end of 2009 have increased 33% (on average) year-to-date. This is more than double the 15% increase of the four banks that were trading above book value. (S&P500 has increased 5.3% since 12/31/09) …
There is one significant outlier to this rule of thumb so far this year – Bank of America (BAC – Buy rated). Its share price has increased 14% year-to-date versus the 33% average increase for the banks that were trading below book value heading into the new year."
